KA-band

The KA-band, from 26.5 - 40 GHz, is used mainly for satellite communication connections. The KA-band allows the use of higher bandwidths. The KA-band is however more 'sensitive' for rain fade then for instance the KU-band. In general applies: the higher the frequency, the more a signal is susceptible to rain fade.

A typical Ku-band rain fade rate is approximately 1dB/sec while the fade rate in Ka-band is significantly higher at around 3 - 5dB/sec.

Ka-band is however grown to the standard choice of many satellite operators because of the growing capacity need, the higher speed and the applicability of (new) broadband services.
